What is OET test structure?

The OET is divided into four sub-tests, each assessing different language skills.

  • Three parts (A, B, C) focusing on different texts such as general healthcare topics, workplace texts, and more detailed passages.

  • Tailored for each profession, candidates write a letter (such as a referral, discharge, or transfer letter) based on a typical workplace situation.
  • • Speaking (about 20 minutes) :
  • Profession-specific role-plays where the candidate acts as the healthcare professional and interacts with a patient or client in simulated real-life scenarios.

  • Regulatory bodies and educational institutions accept OET results for registration, licensing, and employment purposes.

How long are OET test scores valid for?

OET scores are generally valid for 2 years, but specific regulatory bodies may have different requirements.

How is OET graded?

OET is graded on a scale from A being the (highest) to E being the (lowest)

  • A- Very high level of performance (equivalent to IELTS Band 8-9)
  • B- High level of performance (equivalent to IELTS Band 7-8)
  • C- Good level of performance (equivalent to IELTS Band 6.5-7)
  • D- Moderate level of performance (equivalent to IELTS Band 5.5-6)
  • E- Low level of performance (equivalent to IELTS Band 4-5)
  • F- Very low level of performance (below IELTS Band 4).

What is the test format?

OET can be taken either:

  • • On computer at OET test centers.
